JLCStudio

Terms of service

19 October 2026

These terms explain how we work together. JLC Studio is run by Jason Lee in Pretoria, South Africa. When we say "we", we mean JLC Studio. When we say "you", we mean the business or person we are working for. We have kept the words plain on purpose. If anything is unclear, ask us before you sign.

How a project starts

Every project starts with a free call. Within two working days of our first meeting, we send you a written quote. The quote sets out the scope, the price, the dates and the payment terms.

Once you accept the quote, it governs the project. If the quote and these terms say different things, the quote wins.

Our prices are on our website and in your quote.

Payment

We ask for a 50% deposit to begin and 50% on launch. For AI automation, the second half is due when the automation goes live. Other payment terms can be agreed in the quote. Work starts once the deposit is paid.

Invoices are due within 7 days. If an invoice is not paid, we send a reminder. If it is still unpaid 7 days after the due date, we pause your monthly service until it is paid. The monthly service means changes, support and AI workflows. Your website stays online during a pause. If it is still unpaid 30 days after the pause starts, we may take your website offline until it is paid. We will tell you in writing before we do.

Websites

Your quote says how many rounds of revisions are included in your package. From the first week, you can watch progress on a private preview link.

The monthly fee covers hosting, domain, SSL, security updates, backups, uptime monitoring and small changes. Each package includes a set amount of change time each month (30 minutes, 1 hour or 2 hours, depending on the package). Changes beyond that are R650 an hour. We quote them before any work starts. Unused time does not roll over to the next month.

You own your website

Your website is yours outright. That includes the design, the content, the domain and the data. The monthly fee pays for upkeep. It is not a licence.

If you leave, everything goes with you. We hand over the code, the content and the domain.

AI automation

We price setup on scope. The base setup includes your first workflow. Monthly fees cover the platform, each workflow and any voice line. Two hours of support each month are included. After that, support is R650 an hour. If your voice usage goes past the allowance, we bill the extra at cost plus 20%, and we itemise it.

Every workflow keeps a log that you can read. Anything outside a workflow's job goes to a person. The AI is set up never to give legal, tax or medical advice.

Your workflows run on JLC Studio's platform accounts. When the monthly fee stops, the workflows stop. You get an export of your own data, which means your logs, contacts and messages. The workflows themselves stay with JLC Studio.

Personal information (POPIA)

When we build a workflow that handles personal information, you are the responsible party under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). Compliance is your responsibility. We build to support it. For each workflow, we document what data it touches, where that data is stored and who can see it.

Our own handling of personal information is described in our privacy notice.

Monthly fees and cancelling

Monthly fees, for both websites and AI automation, have a minimum term of 6 months from launch or go-live. After that, the agreement continues month to month. You can cancel with 30 days' written notice. Email is fine. Notice given during the minimum term takes effect when the minimum term ends.

If the Consumer Protection Act applies to you, you may also cancel a fixed-term agreement early on 20 business days' notice. We may then charge a reasonable cancellation charge.

Cancelling a project before launch

You can cancel a project after you have paid the deposit and before launch. We keep the deposit to cover the work already done. We hand over the work produced so far, including designs, content and files.

What you provide

You agree to give us content, photos, logins and approvals on time. If these are late, our dates move.

You confirm that you have the right to use everything you give us. That includes text, photos, logos and any other material.

What we do

We do the work with care and skill. We communicate on weekdays between 08:00 and 17:00. We reply to your messages within one working day.

Other companies' services

Your website and automations rely on other companies, such as hosting providers, email services, Google and AI providers. We choose them carefully. But we do not control them. If one of them has an outage or changes how it works, we will help you work around it. We cannot be held responsible for the outage itself.

Limits on our liability

We are responsible for our own work. Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the fees you paid us in the previous 6 months. We are not liable for indirect loss or lost profits. These limits do not apply where the law does not allow them, such as gross negligence or intentional harm.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time, including after a review by a lawyer. The date at the top of the page shows the latest version. A change does not affect a project you have already accepted a quote for, unless you agree to it.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of South Africa.
