Privacy notice

JLC Studio ("we") is a web design and automation studio run by Jason Lee in Pretoria. This notice explains what personal information this website collects, why, and what you can do about it, as the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) requires.

Who is responsible

What we collect and why

When you send a message. Your name, email address, phone number if you give it, what you're looking for and your message. We use it to reply and to discuss your project. We keep it for as long as the conversation or project lasts, and for up to three years after for our records, unless you ask us to delete it sooner.

When you use the site audit or payback calculator. Your name, email address, the website address you enter and the figures you put into the calculator. We use them to send you the result you asked for and to follow up about it once.

Marketing emails. Only if you tick the box to receive them. The box is never ticked for you, and every email has an unsubscribe link.

Visits to the site. We count page visits without cookies: the page viewed, the referring site, the campaign tags in the link, the device type and the country. A random number held in your browser tab (not a cookie) lets us count visits as one session; it is deleted when the tab closes. We also record page-speed measurements. None of this identifies you. Vercel, our host, provides aggregate visit and speed statistics on the same basis.

Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity, only if you accept. If you click Accept on the cookie bar, Google Analytics sets cookies to measure which pages help people and which links bring visitors, and Microsoft Clarity records how the pages are used (scrolling, clicks and pointer movement) so we can see where people get stuck. Clarity hides anything you type into a form. If you decline, or ignore the bar, no analytics cookies are set and the site works the same. You can change your choice at any time under "Cookie settings" at the foot of every page.

Business contact details. We contact businesses about our services using contact details that businesses publish themselves, such as on their own website or Google Business Profile. If we've contacted your business and you'd rather we didn't, tell us and we'll stop.

Who else handles it

We use a small number of service providers to run the site: Supabase (database), Vercel (hosting), Resend (sending email), Google (Google Analytics, if you accept it, and the PageSpeed test that runs on the website address you enter) and Microsoft (Clarity, if you accept it). Some of them store data outside South Africa, under agreements that require them to protect it. We never sell your information.

Your rights

You can ask what information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, object to us using it for marketing, and withdraw any consent you've given. Email jason@jlcstudio.co.za and we'll respond within 30 days. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you may complain to the Information Regulator (inforegulator.org.za).

Security

Access to the information above is limited to Jason Lee, protected by individual logins, and transmitted over encrypted connections.
