Questions
Straight answers before you ask.
How much does a website cost in South Africa?
Across the South African market, a template or DIY site runs R1,500–R5,000, a freelance custom build R8,000–R25,000, and an agency build R40,000 upwards. JLC Studio sits deliberately in the custom band: R10,000 for Launch (up to 5 pages), R16,500 for Growth (up to 8 pages) and R24,000 for Authority (up to 12 pages), each with a monthly retainer from R700. The price is published because hiding it is how quoting games start.
What does the monthly retainer actually cover?
Hosting, domain management, SSL, security updates, backups, performance monitoring and support for small changes — R700/month on Launch, R950 on Growth, R1,200 on Authority. It is not a licence fee for your own website: you own the site outright, and the retainer buys upkeep and a person who answers.
How long does a website take to build?
Launch takes about 2–3 weeks, Growth 3–4 weeks and Authority 4–6 weeks from the point content is ready. The single biggest cause of delay is waiting on copy and photos from the client — start gathering those early and the timeline holds.
What is the difference between the website packages and the SEO add-ons?
The website packages build the site, including on-page SEO foundations — clean structure, fast loading, proper titles and metadata. The SEO add-ons are ongoing campaign work: Local Starter (R4,500 setup, R2,500/month) covers Google Business Profile optimisation, local keyword targeting and monthly reporting; Local Growth (R7,500 setup, R4,500/month) adds SA directory citations, review acquisition, schema markup and competitor tracking. A build gets you findable; the add-ons get you ranking against real competition.
Do I own my website?
Yes — design, content, domain and data, in full. If you ever move on, everything goes with you. This is worth checking with any provider: many South African "website subscription" offers keep ownership, which means leaving costs you the site.
Can I edit the website myself afterwards?
Every build includes a custom admin panel for the content you actually change — services, pricing, menus, photos, blog posts. It is built for a non-technical owner on a phone, not a developer at a desk. No hourly charge to change a price.
Do you work with businesses outside Pretoria?
Yes. The studio is based in Pretoria and works across Gauteng — Centurion, Midrand, Johannesburg and Sandton — and remotely with businesses elsewhere in South Africa. The two niches, home services trades and restaurants, matter more than the pin on the map.
What if my business isn't a trade or a restaurant?
Still worth asking. The packages are shaped around those two niches because focus produces better results, but out-of-niche projects are scoped on a quick call. If it is not a fit, you will be told directly rather than sold something that will not work.
Something different?
Not a trade or a restaurant? Need more than twelve pages? Custom and out-of-niche projects are scoped on a quick call — send a message to start.
